Chapter 3: The Return of the Crown

By midnight, the guests were gone.

Not dismissed—evacuated. Quietly, efficiently, as if the entire reception had never happened.

Only Lena remained in the grand hall, now stripped of music and laughter. Victoria stood near the shattered remnants of her composure. Charles no longer spoke at all.

Adrian stood beside Lena like a guardian carved from stone.

“You’re telling me,” Lena finally said, voice fragile but growing stronger, “that I’m… a princess?”

Adrian nodded once. “The last rightful heir of House Volkov.”

“And the fire?”

His silence answered her better than words.

Something inside her hardened—not into anger, but clarity.

“I was never supposed to survive,” she whispered.

“No,” Adrian said. “But you did.”

Lena looked down at her hands—the same hands that had served drinks, cleaned floors, been ignored by everyone in this room. Slowly, she released the tray she still held.

It clattered to the floor.

No one stopped her.

Victoria took a shaky step forward, desperation breaking through pride. “If this is true… then what happens now?”

Lena looked at her—not as a servant, not as an outsider, but as something else entirely.

“I stop hiding,” she said.
