The waitress, whose name was Eliza, was taken not to the police—but to a private estate on the outskirts of the city.
The same woman who collapsed—Veronica Hale—was already awake.
Waiting.
Pale.
Terrified.
“You said your mother’s name is Marion Calder,” Veronica whispered.
“Yes…”
Veronica’s fingers trembled as she pointed at the pendant.
“That necklace… doesn’t belong to you.”
Eliza frowned. “It was my mother’s. She gave it to me before she died.”
