CHAPTER 2: The Truth Beneath the Silence

The groom staggered back a step.

“No
that’s not possible,” he muttered. “You told me your father was dead.”

Emily’s face crumpled.

“I didn’t lie,” she whispered. “You just never let me finish the story.”

The old man—Mr. Chairman—walked forward slowly, each step echoing across the marble floor.

“I built everything from nothing,” he said. “But I also made mistakes. I lost my family along the way.”

He looked at Emily, his voice softer now.

“I stayed away
because I thought my world would only hurt you.”

Emily wiped her tears. “And today
 you came anyway.”

“To see you happy,” he said.

The groom scoffed. “Happy? With him?” He gestured wildly. “He’s been pretending to be some poor old gardener!”

“No,” one guest whispered.

“I’ve seen him before
”

“That’s—”

“The Chairman of Hale Industries.”

The realization spread like wildfire.

The groom’s face drained of color.

His voice dropped. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Emily met his eyes, something stronger than sadness now burning within them.

“Because you showed me exactly who you were
 without needing to know.”

The words hit harder than any punch.

The groom opened his mouth—but nothing came out.

The Chairman turned to the guards.

“Cancel the contracts,” he said calmly.

The groom froze. “What?”

“All business agreements with his family’s company.”

A collective gasp rippled through the guests.

“No—you can’t do that!” the groom shouted. “Do you know who I am?!”

The Chairman’s expression didn’t change.

May you like

“Yes,” he said.

“And now
 everyone else does too.”
