Months passed.
The grand hotel lobby no longer felt like a stage for appearances—it became a place where something new began.
Victoria changed.
She traded extravagant galas for quiet evenings helping Lily with homework. She turned her company’s resources toward charities supporting single mothers and children in need.
But the most important change was the simplest one:
She became a family.
One afternoon, as sunlight streamed through the tall windows, Lily sat at the piano—the same one that had gone silent the day they met.
Her small fingers pressed the keys carefully, filling the lobby with a soft, beautiful melody.
Victoria watched from nearby, a gentle smile on her face.
“You’re getting better,” she said.
Lily grinned. “I’ve been practicing.”
There was a pause before Lily spoke again.
“Do you think Mommy would be happy?”
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears, but this time, they weren’t from guilt.
“Yes,” she said softly. “I think she would be very proud of you.”
“And of you?” Lily asked.
Victoria hesitated, then nodded. “I hope so.”
Lily hopped off the bench and ran into her arms.
Victoria held her tightly, as if making a silent vow to never let go again.
