Chapter 1: The Quiet Before the Storm

Alexander didn’t raise his voice.

That was what terrified me most.

He sat beside Sofia for nearly an hour, saying very little, only asking soft, precise questions. Every answer she gave seemed to carve something deeper into him—not pain, not grief… something colder.

Calculation.

“Did they touch your phone?” he asked.

Sofia shook her head weakly.

“Did anyone else see you?”

“No…”

He nodded once, then stood.

“I’m going to make a few calls.”

There was no urgency in his tone. No panic. Just certainty.

I followed him into the hallway. “Alexander… what are you planning?”

He looked at me for a long moment. The man I had once married—the man I thought I knew—was gone.

“I’m ending this,” he said simply.

Within hours, everything began to move.

By sunrise, Sofia was in a private medical facility under a different name. Her injuries were documented in meticulous detail. Photographs. Reports. Time stamps.

Evidence.

By noon, three different law firms had been contacted.

By evening, Javier’s company stock began to drop.

And by nightfall…

Carmen received her first call.

She answered, expecting control.

Instead, she heard Alexander’s voice.

Calm.

Measured.

“I know what you did.”

A pause.

Then a laugh on the other end.

“You have no proof.”

Alexander didn’t respond immediately.

When he did, his words were ice.

“Oh… I have everything.”

The line went silent.

“For your sake,” he added, “I suggest you don’t run.”

Because this time…

There would be nowhere to hide.
