CHAPTER 2: What Was Left Unsaid

Victoria and her husband left the boutique in a hurry, their polished image cracking with every step.

But Chloe didn’t celebrate.

She stood by the glass display, her reflection staring back at her—simple jeans, soft jacket, nothing extraordinary. And yet, everything had changed.

“Would you like the collection sent to your residence, Ms. Laurent?” the manager asked.

Chloe hesitated.

“Not today,” she said. “I think I’d rather… keep things simple a little longer.”

The manager smiled knowingly. “Of course.”

Later that evening, Chloe sat alone at a quiet café across the street. No luxury, no spotlight—just a warm cup of coffee and the distant hum of the city.

Her phone buzzed.

Victoria.

Chloe stared at the screen for a long moment before answering.

“…Hello?”

There was no arrogance this time. No sharp edge.

Just silence—and then:

“I didn’t know,” Victoria said quietly. “About you… about any of it.”

Chloe exhaled softly. “You didn’t try to.”

Another pause.

“I’m sorry,” Victoria added. “For what I said… for how I treated you.”

Chloe looked out the window, watching people pass by—each carrying stories no one could see.

“We were friends once,” Chloe said. “That should’ve been enough.”

Victoria’s voice cracked slightly. “Is there… any chance we still could be?”

Chloe didn’t answer right away.

Because this time, she wasn’t the one trying to be accepted.

“I don’t know,” she said honestly. “But I hope you learn from this. Not for me… but for everyone else you meet.”

She hung up gently.

Not angry.

May you like

Not bitter.

Just… free.
