Chapter 3: A Step Forward

Sirens wailed in the distance.

Carter was led away in handcuffs, still shouting about contracts and losses as the police escorted him out of the workshop.

But no one was listening anymore.

All attention was on Lila.

She sat frozen, staring at her legs as if seeing them for the first time.

“Try,” Ethan said gently.

“I
 I’m scared,” she admitted.

“That’s okay,” he replied. “Just
 try.”

With trembling hands, she pressed the control pad.

The chair hummed softly.

Then—slowly—she felt it.

A faint sensation.

A spark.

Her toes twitched.

A collective gasp filled the room.

Tears streamed down her face. “I felt that
 I actually felt that!”

Ethan smiled for the first time. “That’s just the beginning.”

Weeks passed.

Under Ethan’s guidance and proper therapy, Lila took her first step.

Then another.

The video of that moment spread across the world—hope in motion.

As for Ethan, he didn’t stay hidden anymore.

He stepped into his father’s legacy, not as a shadow, but as a force for change—repairing not just machines, but trust.

One afternoon, as Lila walked—unaided—through the same workshop, she found Ethan tightening bolts on another chair.

“You could be running the entire company,” she said.

He shrugged. “Maybe someday. But for now
 this is where I’m needed.”

She smiled. “You didn’t just fix my chair, you know.”

Ethan looked up. “Yeah?”

“You gave me my life back.”

He paused, then gave a small, quiet smile.

“No,” he said. “You took it back.”

And this time—

no one could ever turn it off again.
