Chapter 1: The Silence After the Truth

The grand banquet hall remained frozen in a heavy silence after Sophie’s words.

No one moved at first.

Julian West stood in the center of the marble floor, his hand still half-raised in disbelief. The confidence he always carried in boardrooms and public events had collapsed into something quieter
 uncertain.

Vivian slowly stepped back, her gold gown catching the chandelier light, but her expression no longer held its polished perfection. For the first time, she looked unsure of the world she had carefully controlled.

Near the side of the hall, Anna gently knelt to Sophie’s height, still holding the child’s trembling hands.

“Sweetheart
” Anna whispered, voice barely steady. “You shouldn’t say things like that here.”

But Sophie shook her head, stubborn even through tears.

“I’m not lying,” she said softly. “I remember everything.”

A fragile tension spread across the room. Guests looked away, pretending not to listen, yet unable to move.

Julian finally lowered his hand.

“Anna
” he said quietly, almost breaking the word apart. “Step outside with me. Now.”

Anna hesitated, but Sophie tightened her grip.

“No,” Sophie said immediately. “If she goes, I go too.”

That single sentence changed the air in the room again—heavier, deeper, irreversible.
