Chapter 2: The Shift in Power

The whispers returned—but they were different now.
“That’s impossible…”
“Is she serious?”
“How much did she win?”
Elena slowly lowered her phone, her hands still shaking. But something inside her had changed.
For the first time, she didn’t lower her eyes.
She looked up.
Straight at the woman in red.
“I’m sorry about the glass,” Elena said softly.
Her voice was calm now. Steady.
“I’ll still pay for it.”
A few guests exchanged awkward glances.
The woman in red forced a laugh, though it sounded thin.
“Well, I suppose you can afford it now.”
But the room wasn’t laughing anymore.
Elena took a step forward.
“I always could,” she said quietly. “Just not in the way you think.”
That line lingered.
Because it wasn’t about money.
Not really.
The event manager rushed over, suddenly polite—too polite.
“Miss Elena… is there anything you need? Please, you don’t have to continue working tonight.”
Elena looked around the room.
At the same faces.
The same people.
But now, everything felt… different.
“No,” she said gently. “I think I’m done working here.”
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
And just like that—she took off her uniform apron and placed it neatly on a nearby table.
Not in anger.
But with quiet dignity.
She turned and walked toward the exit.

This time, no one stopped her.
No one dared to.
