Chapter 3

Three months later—
The house was quiet.
Sunlight spilled through wide windows onto polished wooden floors.
No shouting.
No tension.
No fear.
Emily stood on the balcony, one hand resting gently on her growing stomach.
The city stretched out before her.
Peaceful.
Finally.
Behind her, the door slid open.
Her father stepped out, holding two cups of tea.
“Doctor says you’re doing well,” he said, handing her one.
She smiled faintly. “I feel better.”
And she meant it.
Not just physically.
Legally, everything had unraveled exactly as it should.
Her husband had been charged.
Convicted.
Not just for what he did to her—
but for everything he thought he could get away with.
The videos.
The forged signatures.
The accounts.
All of it.
Gone.
Just like him.
“Do you regret it?” her father asked gently.
She thought for a moment.
About the fall.
The laughter.
The moment she realized she was truly alone.
Then she looked down at her hand—
resting over new life.
“No,” she said.
“I regret staying as long as I did.”
A soft breeze passed between them.
For the first time in a long time—
it felt like freedom.
Her father nodded. “You won’t have to go through anything like that again.”
“I know,” she said.
And she did.
Because this time—
she wasn’t begging for respect.
She had it.
From herself.
From the life she was about to bring into the world.
And from the man who never once let her fall alone.
Emily took a deep breath.
The past was gone.
The future was hers.
May you like
And this time—
no one would take it away.
