CHAPTER 6: The House That Stayed

Weeks later, the house felt quieter.

Softer.

Different.

Mara stood in the doorway of the workshop again—but this time, sunlight poured through the windows.

She had cleaned it.

Organized it.

Kept it alive.

Just like her father would have wanted.

Judith approached slowly.

“I didn’t know,” she said.

Mara nodded.

“I believe you.”

A pause.

“I was wrong about you,” her mother added, voice fragile. “About everything.”

Mara looked around the property—the home her father had trusted her with.

“I think he knew,” she said softly. “That one day, we’d all have to face the truth.”

Judith wiped her tears.

“Can we… start over?”

Mara hesitated.

Then, gently—

“Yes.”

Not because the past was forgiven.

But because the future deserved a chance.

As for Paige—

She was gone.

Not erased.

Just… no longer at the center of everything.

And in the quiet that followed, Mara finally understood her father’s last message:

“For Mara, when she needs it.”

It wasn’t just the house.

It was the truth.

May you like

And the strength to stand alone—

Until she didn’t have to anymore.
