Chapter 5: A New Beginning

Weeks later, the house was gone.
Sold.
Stripped of everything it once hid.
Sophia stood with me at the edge of a quiet lake, sunlight dancing across the water.
No cameras.
No whispers.
Just peace.
She wore a simple white dress—not the wedding gown, but something lighter.
Freer.
“I used to think those scars defined me,” she said.
I turned to her.
“And now?”
She smiled faintly.
“Now they remind me I survived.”
I took her hand.
“They don’t tell your story,” I said. “You do.”
She looked out across the water, breathing deeply.
For the first time—
Not like someone escaping the past.
But like someone stepping into a future.
And as the sun dipped lower, casting gold across the horizon, she leaned into me and whispered:
“I wasn’t waiting for someone to save me.”
I smiled.
“I know.”
She squeezed my hand.
“I was waiting for someone to stand beside me.”
May you like
And this time—
She never had to wait again.
