Chapter 1: The Fall of a King

Marcus was still smiling when the first call came in.
He stood in the presidential suite—her suite—pouring champagne into two crystal glasses as his mistress lounged across the silk sheets like she owned the place.
Then his phone buzzed.
He almost ignored it.
Almost.
“Make it quick,” he muttered, stepping toward the window overlooking the glittering skyline.
“Sir…” His executive assistant’s voice was shaking. “There’s been an emergency board vote.”
Marcus frowned. “At this hour? Who authorized—”
“They’re removing you.”
Silence.
The city lights flickered below, but for the first time in years, Marcus felt something unfamiliar.
Instability.
“That’s not possible,” he snapped. “I am the board.”
“No, sir,” she whispered. “You’re not.”
Another call came in.
Then another.
Legal.
Finance.
Operations.
Each one delivering the same message in different words.
Authority revoked.
Access suspended.
Control—gone.
Behind him, the mistress sat up. “What’s happening?”
Marcus didn’t answer.
Because for the first time in his carefully constructed empire…
He had no idea.
Across the city, standing beneath the glow of a quiet office lamp, she watched it all unfold.
Calm.
Silent.
Unshaken.
Her phone rested in her hand.
Another message came through.
“Ownership transfer confirmed.”
She exhaled slowly.
Not relief.
Not revenge.
Closure.
For eleven years, she had built his empire from the inside.
Quietly.
Patiently.
And tonight…
She took it back.
Back at the hotel, security entered the suite again.
But this time, they weren’t looking at her.
They were looking at Marcus.
“Sir,” one of them said carefully, “we’ve been instructed to escort you out.”
Marcus laughed.
Actually laughed.
“You’re joking.”
No one moved.
No one smiled.
And slowly…
The reality hit him.
He turned toward the door.
Toward the hallway.
Toward the eyes of staff who once feared him.
Respected him.
Followed him.
Now?
They simply watched.
And for the first time in his life—
May you like
Marcus understood what it felt like…
To have nothing.
