Sirens came fast.
Not local.
Federal.
Black vehicles rolled past the gates like they had been waiting just outside reality.
Men stepped out in plain clothes.
No lights.
No noise.
Just certainty.
One of them approached me.
“Arthur.”
I nodded.
He looked at Lily.
Then at Richard.
Then at the phone in my hand.
“That’s enough,” he said.
It was.
Two agents moved toward Richard.
He didn’t fight.
Men like him never do when they realize the rules have changed.
His mother tried to speak.
No one listened.
