Chapter 1: The Weight of Truth

The grand doors of the mansion remained open, but no one dared to step outside.
Inside, silence spread like a crack through glass.
Edward—the man who once coldly cast Mariana out—stood frozen in the marble hallway. His mother clutched the railing, her face pale, her fingers trembling against the polished wood.
“Four…?” she whispered. “Four children?”
Outside, Mariana held her boys close. They stood in perfect formation—identical, composed, and dignified far beyond their years. Each wore a small suit, their presence both innocent and powerful.
Edward finally found his voice.
“Mariana… wait!”
But she didn’t turn immediately.
Years ago, she had begged him to listen. Today, he was the one pleading.
Slowly, she faced him. Her eyes were no longer filled with desperation—but with quiet strength.
“You don’t get to call me back now,” she said softly.
Edward stepped forward, his voice cracking. “I didn’t know… I thought—”
“You didn’t want to know,” she cut in.
The boys watched silently.
One of them—Lucas—stepped forward. “Mom, is he sorry?”
Mariana hesitated.
Edward dropped to his knees.

“Yes,” he said. “I am.”
But apologies, Mariana knew, could not rewrite the past.
