CHAPTER 5: PEACE IS THE REAL REVENGE

A year later, I barely recognized my life.

Morning sunlight filled a small but warm home. My child laughed freely—no tension, no fear, no walking on eggshells.

And me?

I wasn’t surviving anymore.

I was living.

He still existed, of course. People like him don’t disappear—they linger, they attempt, they test boundaries.

But he no longer defined my world.

One afternoon, as I watched my child take their first confident steps across the living room, I realized something powerful:

I hadn’t just escaped a man.

I had escaped a version of myself that believed I had to endure pain to keep the peace.

And I would never go back.

Not for love.

Not for fear.

Not for anything.

Because the greatest victory wasn’t leaving him behind.

It was finally choosing myself.

And teaching my child… to do the same.
