Chapter 1: The Trap Closes

The moment the investigators stepped into the kitchen, the atmosphere shifted from celebration to prosecution.
Julián’s confidence evaporated like spilled tequila.
“What is this?” he demanded, his voice no longer smooth, but sharp.
Ernesto didn’t answer him.
He simply nodded once.
The forensic examiner moved past the guests, straight toward Ofelia—still frozen on her knees, her hand hovering over the black trash bag.
“Ma’am,” the examiner said calmly, “please step away from the evidence.”
Ofelia’s face drained of color.
“This is ridiculous—this is my house!”
“No,” Ernesto corrected quietly. “It isn’t.”
The room erupted in whispers.
The investigator carefully pulled the bag into the open and tore it apart.
Inside—
Documents.
Stamped.
Signed.
Forged.
Valeria watched from the garden, her pulse thundering in her ears as the truth she had lived with in silence was finally dragged into the light.
One of the investigators lifted a page.
“Loan application under false pretenses… forged signature… property transfer attempt.”
Julián stepped back.
“That’s not mine.”
But Ernesto’s voice cut through the denial like a blade.
“Your fingerprints are already on record.”
Silence.
Absolute.
Crushing.

And then—
The click of handcuffs.
