Chapter 1: The Fall

The boardroom doors closed behind Elena with a quiet finality that echoed louder than any slam.

Inside, twelve executives rose to their feet.

Not out of obligation.

Out of respect.

“Ms. Ward,” her chief legal officer said, gesturing toward the head of the table.

Her seat.

Not Daniel’s.

Never Daniel’s.

Elena didn’t rush. She placed her coat neatly over the chair, her movements precise, controlled—nothing like the woman who had stood silent in that foyer minutes ago.

That version of her was gone.

“Let’s begin,” she said calmly.

A screen lit up.

Daniel’s name disappeared from the CEO position.

Replaced instantly.

Elena Ward – Acting CEO

No debate.

No resistance.

Only unanimous approval.

Because unlike Daniel, she didn’t inherit power.

She built it.

Across the city, Daniel stood in his office—no, former office—watching the same update flash across his screen.

Access denied.

Email locked.

Security clearance revoked.

Everything vanished in seconds.

“What is this?!” he snapped at the assistant outside his door.

She didn’t meet his eyes.

“I’m sorry, sir. I’ve been instructed to escort you out.”

Escort.

The word hit harder than a slap.

“You can’t be serious. I am this company!”

“No,” came a calm voice from behind him.

Daniel turned.

Elena stood in the doorway.

Not angry.

Not emotional.

Untouchable.

“You were,” she corrected.

Silence stretched between them.

Daniel stepped forward, desperation cracking through his arrogance.

“Elena… listen. I didn’t know. If I had known—”

“That’s exactly the problem,” she said.

Her voice was soft.

But merciless.

“You never bothered to know me at all.”

He swallowed hard.

“We can fix this.”

Again with that word.

Fix.

She tilted her head slightly.

“You didn’t just betray a wife, Daniel,” she said. “You betrayed the person who kept you from losing everything.”

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“I made a mistake.”

Elena almost smiled.

“No,” she said.

“You made a choice.”

And with that, she turned away.

This time—

She didn’t look back.

Outside, rain began to fall.

Daniel stood alone under the building’s towering glass façade as employees passed him without recognition.

For the first time in years—

May you like

He was invisible.

And there was no one left to blame but himself.
