The Daughter He Never Knew

The next morning, sunlight poured through the tall windows of the Hawthorne library. Emily sat on a velvet sofa, a warm blanket over her lap, a cup of herbal tea in her hands. Victor paced in front of the fireplace, then finally sat beside her.
âI never knew,â he said, voice rough with emotion. âMargaret told me she lost the baby. Paid her to leave and never contact me again. I was young, stupid, and married to someone else. I let her go.â
Emily listened as the pieces of her life finally clicked into place. The father she had always wondered about. The man whose blood ran in her veins.
âI didnât come here looking for you,â she said softly. âI just needed work. I had no idea until⊠tonight.â
Victor reached out and took her hand. His eyes were wet. âYouâre my daughter, Emily. And my grandchildââ His voice broke as he looked at her belly. âI have a grandchild coming.â
