The Moment Everything Changed

He didnât let her finish.
He looked at the woman in whiteâdripping confidence just moments ago, now trembling slightly under his gazeâand said nothing for a full second. The silence stretched until it became unbearable.
Then his voice cut through the air, low and dangerous.
âYou touched my wife.â
No one moved. No one breathed.
The woman in white forced a laugh, weak and sharp. âIt was an accident. She slippedââ
But he had already turned away from her.
His wife lay unconscious on the stone patio, water dripping from her hair, their little boy kneeling beside her, sobbing into her hand.

That sound broke something inside him.
He knelt, checked her pulse, and exhaled in relief when he felt itâfaint, but there.

But his eyes were no longer soft.
They were calculating.
