Chapter 1: The Fall of Illusions

The ballroom that once shimmered with pride now felt suffocatingly quiet. Guests whispered behind gloved hands, watching the groom and his mother stand frozen in shock.
Evelyn didn’t raise her voice. She didn’t need to.
With a calm, steady breath, she handed the documents back to her assistant.
“Cancel the wedding,” she said simply.
The groom—Daniel—finally snapped out of it. “Evelyn, wait… this is insane. You’re overreacting.”
She turned to him slowly, her eyes no longer soft or loving.
“Overreacting?” she echoed. “You let your mother humiliate me… and then asked me to apologize.”
His mother scoffed, trying to regain control. “Money doesn’t buy class.”
Evelyn gave a faint smile. “No. But it does reveal it.”
Within minutes, security—her security—escorted Daniel and his mother out of the venue. Their protests echoed through the marble halls, but no one followed them. No one defended them.
