Chapter 1: The Interrupted Laughter

The laughter hadn’t fully died when the manager spoke.

“Ma’am… would you like us to proceed with the new branch opening under your name?”

The entire store froze.

Clara—still standing in her simple beige coat, her hands calm at her sides—didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she looked at Amelia, the woman who had just mocked her.

“Do you think I look too poor to make decisions like that?” Clara asked softly.

Amelia’s smile cracked.

The manager shifted nervously. “Miss Clara owns forty percent of the company shares. The board is waiting for her approval.”

Gasps rippled through the boutique.

Amelia’s face turned pale.

Clara finally nodded. “Yes. Open it. But not here.”

The manager blinked. “Not… here?”

Clara’s gaze returned to Amelia. “No. This location no longer represents the brand I helped build.”

And just like that, the power in the room shifted.
