CHAPTER 3: THE FALL OF A QUEEN

“Guards.”
Two men appeared instantly at the doorway.
The stepmother’s composure cracked. “What is this nonsense? You can’t possibly believe—”
“Remove her,” the father said.
His voice was ice.
“No—wait!” she shrieked as they grabbed her arms. “I built this house with you! I stood beside you!”
“No,” he replied coldly. “You destroyed it.”
She struggled, her elegance gone, replaced by desperation.
“You’ll regret this!” she screamed. “Without me, you’ll lose everything!”
The father didn’t even blink.
“Everything?” he repeated.
His gaze shifted to his daughter.
“I almost lost everything already.”
The doors slammed shut behind the stepmother as she was dragged away.
