The Truth Uncovered

He noticed something was off immediately. The house felt tense⊠quiet in a way that didnât feel normal.
âWhereâs Emily?â he asked.
âIn her room, probably making another mess,â Vanessa replied casually.
Daniel frowned. He went upstairs and gently knocked before entering. Emily quickly wiped her eyes, forcing a smile.
âHey, pumpkin⊠whatâs wrong?â
She hesitated. For a moment, she almost said nothingâlike she always did. But something about her fatherâs gentle voice made the truth slip out.
âMy gift⊠for you⊠itâs gone.â
Daniel knelt beside her. âWhat gift?â
âThe scrapbook⊠I made it for your birthdayâŠâ
A heavy silence filled the room.
Daniel stood up slowly, a storm building behind his calm expression. He walked straight downstairs.
âVanessa,â he said firmly. âWhat did you throw away today?â
She shrugged. âJust some junk your daughter made.â
That was it.
Without another word, Daniel grabbed his keys and rushed outside. The garbage truck hadnât come yetâthank God.
He searched through the trash bags, ignoring the mess, until finallyâ
There it was.
Crushed. Slightly torn. But still there.
