Chapter 4: Rowan Learns to Sit

Rowan had spent months trying to fix silence.
He didn’t know how to sit inside it.
Until one evening, Sadie moved slightly and made space beside her on the rug.
No words. Just an invitation.
Rowan hesitated. Then slowly lowered himself to the floor.
Elodie noticed immediately.
Her body tensed.
Rowan froze, every instinct telling him to speak, to reassure, to explain—
But he didn’t.
He remembered Sadie.
So instead, he picked up a small wooden deer and placed it gently beside the others.
Fox. Rabbit. Deer.
He added nothing more.
Minutes passed.
Then Elodie moved a fox… closer to him.
May you like
It was small.
But it was not nothing.
