CHAPTER 2: The Man Behind the Mask

The story spread by morning.

By noon, it was everywhere.

“Victor Hale bows to unknown man.”

“Elite wedding scandal shocks city.”

“Who is the man in white?”

Clara sat alone in her penthouse, staring at her reflection.

For the first time in years
 she didn’t recognize herself.

Her phone buzzed nonstop—calls, messages, rumors—but none of it mattered.

Only one question echoed in her mind:

Who was he?

Meanwhile, across the city, Victor stood inside a modest office—far removed from the luxury he was known for.

The young man sat by the window, sipping tea.

Simple. Quiet. Unshaken.

“Sir,” Victor said carefully, “the damage has already begun. Investors are asking questions. The board is nervous.”

The young man smiled faintly.

“They should be.”

Victor hesitated. “You could destroy everything I’ve built.”

“I could,” he agreed.

Silence stretched between them.

“But I won’t.”

Victor looked up, stunned.

“Why?” he asked.

The young man set his cup down.

“Because I remember you.”

Victor froze.

“You weren’t always like this,” he continued. “You used to be the man who stayed late to help others
who treated every employee with dignity.”

Victor’s throat tightened.

“That man built your empire,” the young man said. “Not this version of you.”

Victor’s eyes burned.

“I lost my way,” he admitted quietly.

“Yes,” the young man said. “But you can still find it again.”

Back in the penthouse, Clara made a decision.

For the first time in her life
 she chose humility.

She left behind the diamonds.

The designer dress.

May you like

The arrogance.

And went searching for the man she had tried to destroy.
