CHAPTER 1: THE LOOK THAT BROKE SILENCE

The moment Julian Rivas looked at her, the world seemed to tilt.
It wasn’t just curiosity in his gaze—it was recognition. Sharp. Immediate. Unsettling.
Clara froze.
Around them, laughter and music continued, glasses clinked, heels clicked against marble—but in that single moment, none of it mattered. Julian’s expression shifted, his jaw tightening as if he had just seen a ghost.
“Who is that girl?” he asked quietly, though no one had spoken to him.
A nearby guest followed his line of sight and shrugged. “Staff, I assume.”
But Julian wasn’t listening anymore.
Clara’s instinct screamed at her to move, to disappear back into the safety of the kitchen corridors. But her feet wouldn’t obey. It was as if something invisible had rooted her to the floor.
Then Julian started walking toward her.
Each step sent a ripple through the room. Conversations faltered. Heads turned. People noticed when a Rivas moved with purpose.
Clara’s breath caught.
No. No, he can’t come here.
But he did.
He stopped just a few feet away, studying her face with an intensity that made her chest tighten.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
“C-Clara,” she managed.
The silence stretched.
May you like
Then he said something that shattered everything.
“That’s not possible.”
