“I’m here…” he whispered.
Her eyes slowly opened.

Then tears slid down her temples.
“You… came back…”
“I never stopped trying,” he said, his voice breaking. “They kept us apart. I didn’t know…”
Her weak hand reached for his.
“I know,” she whispered.
Lila stood at the door, watching silently.
