Chapter 5: What Remains

Years passed.
The mansion no longer carried whispers.
Only stories.
The kind told in quiet voices, with pride instead of shame.
Emily’s daughter stood in the garden again—older now, stronger.
“Is it true?” she asked.
“That people thought Clara was the villain?”
Emily nodded.
“Yes.”
“And you still believed her?”
Emily looked toward Clara, who was speaking with a group of visitors nearby.
“Always.”
The girl thought for a moment.
Then she asked:
“Why didn’t she leave after everything?”
Emily smiled softly.
“Because some people don’t walk away from broken places…”
“They stay,” she said,
“…and make them whole again.”
The wind moved gently through the garden.
Clara looked up, meeting their gaze.
No words were needed.
Because the truth had already won.

It stayed.
