CHAPTER 2: THE TRUTH BURIED IN BLOOD

By morning, the mansion was silent again.
But it wasn’t the same silence.
It was heavier.
Watching.
Waiting.
Lily sat wrapped in a blanket in Lucas’s private study, her small chest still wheezing. A doctor had finally brought her a new inhaler. She held it tightly, like it was treasure.
Across from her, Lucas sat in a chair, pale—but alive.
“You saved me,” he said quietly.
Lily shrugged.
“You couldn’t breathe.”
That simple.
That honest.
Lucas let out a slow breath.
“Do you know what happens to men like me… when they almost die?”
Lily shook her head.
“They realize who was waiting for it.”
A long pause.
Then Lucas slid a file across the desk.
Inside—
Photos.
Documents.
Bank transfers.
And one name repeated over and over.
Victor DeLuca.
Lily didn’t understand.
But Lucas did.
“Years ago,” he said slowly, “my wife and son died in a car explosion.”
His voice didn’t break.
But something deeper did.
“They said it was my enemies.”
His fingers tightened on the chair.
“But I never found proof.”
He looked at the file.
“Until last night.”
Lily’s voice was small.
“The man in the corner?”
Lucas nodded once.
“He’s been poisoning me for months,” he said. “Slow. Careful. Undetectable.”
Lily’s eyes widened.
“Why?”
“Because when I die…” Lucas said quietly, “…everything becomes his.”

The room went still.
“And he didn’t expect a little girl… with one last breath to give… to ruin everything.”
