The Truth Beneath the Water

THE TRUTH COMES TO LIGHT
An hour later, the villa was surrounded by police lights.
Red and blue reflections shimmered across the water in the pool like broken glass.
The woman in white sat on a marble bench, her perfect posture gone, her hands trembling in her lap. Her designer dress was wrinkled now, her makeup slightly smudgedâlike her entire identity was coming undone.
âI didnât mean toâŠâ she kept repeating. âShe shouldnât have been standing there. I justâlost my balanceââ
But security footage told a different story.
One push.
Clear.
Deliberate.
Inside the villa, the wife had regained consciousness.
Weak, coughing, but alive.
Her husband refused to leave her side for even a second, holding her hand as if the world might take her again if he let go.
The little boy climbed onto the chair beside the bed, resting his head carefully against his motherâs arm.
âI saved you this time,â he whispered softly.
Tears rolled down her face.
âYou always do,â she whispered back.
Outside the room, the man finally stepped away.
He walked toward the hallway where the woman in white was being held.
When he spoke, his voice was quiet.
Not loud.
Not dramatic.
Just final.
âYou didnât just push my wife,â he said. âYou tried to erase my family.â
She broke down instantly. âI didnât think she wouldâ I didnât thinkââ
May you like
âThatâs the problem,â he interrupted. âYou didnât think.â
And for the first time, she had no words left.
