Chapter 1: The Sirens at the Gate

The sound of sirens shattered the illusion of perfection that had wrapped itself around the Cherry Hills estate for years.
Blue and red lights flickered through the tall glass windows, staining the white tablecloth in flashes of truth.
No one spoke.
Not Diego.
Not Victoria.
Not the man who had just ordered me to surrender my life like it was a family asset.
The door opened.
Two officers stepped inside, followed by a paramedic carrying a medical kit.
“Who called 911?” one officer asked.
“I did,” I answered, steady despite the blood still drying along my temple.
The officer’s eyes moved to my face, then to the shattered porcelain, then to Diego.
“What happened here?”
“My husband assaulted me,” I said clearly.
There was no shaking in my voice now.
No hesitation.
Just facts.
And facts were something this family had never been able to manipulate.
Within minutes, Diego was in handcuffs.
He kept repeating the same thing.
“It was an accident. She’s exaggerating.”
But even he didn’t believe it anymore.
