Later that night, the ballroom emptied—but the tension did not.

In a private lounge, the truth began to unravel.

“You kept her hidden for years,” the Wealthy Woman accused, pacing. “Why?”

The Patriarch didn’t answer immediately. He poured a drink, untouched.

“Because people like you,” he finally said, “measure worth in convenience.”

He gestured toward the Elderly Woman, now resting peacefully.

“When she became fragile… she became invisible to the world.”

“And to you?” she snapped.

His eyes hardened.

“Never.”

Silence.

Then—

“She remembered everything,” he added. “Every visit you skipped. Every cruel word you thought no one heard.”

The Wealthy Woman’s composure cracked for the first time.
