Chapter 1: The Silence After Power

The air in the showroom turned ice-cold.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

The wealthy woman’s face drained of color as she stared at the bride like she was seeing a completely different person.

“That’s… not funny,” she said, her voice unsteady.

The manager remained bowed for a moment longer before straightening.

“The transfer has been finalized,” he said calmly. “As of ten minutes ago, this showroom—and all its assets—now belong to Miss Carter.”

A ripple of shock spread across the room.

The two glamorous women who had been laughing moments ago went completely silent.

The bride—now Miss Carter—slowly turned her head, her eyes calm but sharp.

“Apologize,” she said.

Not loud.

Not angry.

But absolute.

The wealthy woman stiffened. “Excuse me?”

“You hit me,” Miss Carter said, her voice steady. “In my store. In front of my staff.”

The words landed like a verdict.

“I—You don’t understand who I am,” the woman snapped, grasping at her pride. “My husband—”

“I don’t care who your husband is,” Miss Carter interrupted coldly. “Right now, you’re just someone who assaulted me.”

The room held its breath.

For the first time, fear flickered clearly across the woman’s face.
