Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Bride

Security arrived within minutes.
Not chaotic.
Not loud.
Just efficient.
“Ma’am,” one guard said to the wealthy woman, “we’re going to need you to come with us.”
“You can’t touch me!” she snapped. “Do you know how much money I—”
“Yes,” Miss Carter said softly. “I do.”
She took a slow step forward.
“And it’s still not enough to excuse what you did.”
The woman’s composure cracked.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” she demanded desperately. “Why let us think—”
“That I didn’t belong here?” Miss Carter finished.
Silence.
A long, uncomfortable silence.
“I wanted to see how people treat someone they believe has nothing,” she said. “Now I know.”
Her words cut deeper than any insult.
Across the room, a young assistant wiped away tears.
The bride noticed.
And her expression softened—just slightly.
“Everyone else can return to work,” she said. “Except them.”
She nodded toward the three women.
