Chapter 1: The Bitter Truth

The sirens hadn’t even arrived yet, but the house already felt like a crime scene.
“Don’t touch anything!” Mark shouted, his voice trembling as he clutched the sealed plastic bag. Inside, the blue mug sat like a silent witness, the dark powder clinging to its rim.
“I didn’t do this!” Emily cried, her face pale, her hands shaking uncontrollably. “Mark, you have to believe me!”
But Mark’s eyes were locked on their son, Liam, who lay curled on the kitchen floor, whimpering in pain. Every instinct in him screamed to protect his child—and right now, Emily looked like the threat.
“She gave it to me…” Liam whispered weakly, pointing again.
Those words cut deeper than any knife.
Minutes later, paramedics rushed in, lifting Liam onto a stretcher. As they wheeled him out, Mark followed closely—but not before turning back one last time.
“If anything happens to him…” he said, voice low and broken, “I’ll never forgive you.”
