Chapter 2

Ten minutes later, the ballroom transformed into a courtroom.

A projector flickered to life against a silk-draped wall. Conversations dissolved into whispers as file after file opened—emails, contracts, voice recordings.

Vanessa’s voice filled the room:

“…once we finalize the marriage, his company assets transfer under joint control. From there, it’s easy.”

Gasps.

Ethan stood rigid, his world collapsing frame by frame.

“This is fake,” Vanessa said quickly, stepping forward. “It’s edited—”

But then another recording played.

A man’s voice this time. “And the fiancé?”

Vanessa again, colder now: “He’s in love. He won’t question anything.”

Silence.

Heavy. Crushing.

Ethan finally looked at her—not with confusion this time, but clarity.

“You were going to destroy me.”

Vanessa’s expression cracked. “No—Ethan, listen—this was business. I was going to take care of you—”

“By stealing everything I built?”

Security had already started moving.

“No,” Vanessa snapped, backing away. “You don’t understand how this world works—”

“I understand enough.”

She was escorted out, her white dress trailing like a ghost of something that never existed.

The doors slammed shut.

And just like that—his wedding was over.
