CHAPTER 1: THE FALL OF A KING

Marcus stood frozen in the middle of the lobby, the hum of confusion swelling around him like a rising tide.

“This is ridiculous,” he snapped, forcing a laugh that no longer sounded convincing. “Call IT. Fix it.”

No one moved.

Not the receptionist.
Not the manager.
Not even the assistant who used to follow him like a shadow.

For the first time in years… Marcus Vale was being ignored.

“Do you know who I am?” he barked, stepping toward the front desk.

The general manager swallowed hard before answering.

“Yes, sir. That’s exactly why we can’t help you.”

The words landed heavier than any insult.

Marcus’s jaw tightened. “I own this hotel.”

A pause.

Then, quietly—

“Not anymore.”

The silence that followed was suffocating.

Behind him, his mistress shifted uncomfortably, clutching the silk robe tighter around her body as if it could shield her from the sudden change in power.

“What’s going on?” she whispered.

Marcus didn’t answer.

Because deep down… he already knew.

He turned toward the entrance.

Outside, under the glow of the city lights, Isabella still stood exactly where he left her.

But something had changed.

She wasn’t alone anymore.

A black car had pulled up beside her. Two men in tailored suits stood nearby—not bodyguards, but something more precise.

Controlled.
Quiet.
Unquestionably loyal.

Marcus pushed past the revolving doors, his voice sharp.

“Isabella!”

She turned slowly.

Not startled.
Not emotional.

Just… composed.

“What did you do?” he demanded.

She tilted her head slightly, studying him as if seeing him clearly for the first time.

“I didn’t do anything,” she said softly.

A small pause.

“I stopped protecting you.”

The words hit harder than any accusation.

Marcus let out a bitter laugh. “You think this is funny? You think you can scare me with some legal trick?”

Isabella’s gaze didn’t waver.

“This isn’t a trick, Marcus. It’s reality.”

He stepped closer, lowering his voice.

“You need me,” he said. “Everything you have—this life—it exists because of me.”

For the first time…

She smiled.

And it wasn’t kind.

“No,” she replied. “Everything you had existed because of my father.”

The truth finally surfaced.

Cold.
Sharp.
Unavoidable.

Marcus’s confidence cracked.

“You’re bluffing.”

Her phone buzzed again.

She glanced down, then handed it to him.

A document.

Signed.
Sealed.
Irrevocable.

Castle Hospitality Group—majority stakeholder: transferred.

To a name Marcus had never taken seriously.

Her father.

His breath hitched.

“You… you planned this?”

Isabella took a step back.

“I gave you years to change,” she said. “You chose not to.”

Then she turned toward the car.

“Goodbye, Marcus.”

And just like that…

May you like

The man who once owned everything was left standing outside the doors that no longer recognized him.

Alone.
