CHAPTER 3: REBUILDING

Six months later…
The Riverside Hotel looked nothing like it used to.
It wasn’t perfect.
But it was alive.
Fresh paint.
Warm lights.
Staff who smiled—not out of fear, but pride.
Marcus stood behind the front desk, sleeves rolled up, reviewing bookings.
Not giving orders.
Working.
Actually working.
“Room 204 needs new linens,” an employee said.
“I’ll handle it,” Marcus replied without hesitation.
The employee blinked, surprised—but nodded.
This version of Marcus…
Was unfamiliar.
But real.
Later that evening, he stepped outside, locking the doors behind him.
And that’s when he saw her.
Across the street.
Isabella.
No cameras.
No entourage.
Just her.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Then Marcus crossed the street.
Slowly.
Carefully.
“I didn’t expect to see you here,” he said.
“I was in the area,” she replied.
A pause.
She glanced at the hotel behind him.
“You’ve changed it.”
Marcus exhaled.
“I’m trying to change… everything.”
She studied him.
Not with anger.
Not with affection.
But with quiet understanding.
“That takes time,” she said.
“I know.”
Another silence.
Then—
“Thank you,” Marcus added.
She raised an eyebrow slightly.
“For what?”
“For not destroying me when you could have.”
Isabella looked at him for a long moment.
Then said—
“Don’t waste it.”
He nodded.
“I won’t.”
She gave a small, almost imperceptible smile.
Then turned to leave.
Marcus didn’t stop her.
Some things…
Needed space.
But as she walked away, she paused.
Just briefly.
Then said without turning—
“Take care of it.”
Marcus glanced back at the Riverside Hotel.
Then answered quietly—
“I will.”
And this time…
He meant it.
Because losing everything had finally taught him the one thing power never could—
How to deserve something.
And somewhere in the distance…
May you like
For the first time in a long time…
Both of them were finally free.
