Chapter 2: Truth in the Storm

Hours passed like a lifetime.

Storm clouds gathered outside, rain streaking against the hospital windows as tension filled every second.

Inside the delivery room, Elena fought through pain, fear, and exhaustion—while Arthur never left her side.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he asked quietly during a brief moment between contractions.

Elena closed her eyes. “Because your family made it clear… this child wasn’t welcome.”

Arthur’s expression darkened. “My family doesn’t decide my life.”

She looked at him, fragile but resolute.
“Your mother said she would take the baby away. That I’d never see him again.”

That was the truth.

The threat. The reason she ran.

Arthur exhaled slowly, anger simmering beneath the surface.
“She doesn’t get to make that choice.”

Another contraction hit—stronger this time.

“Arthur—” Elena cried out.

“I’ve got you,” he said firmly, holding her hand. “Stay with me.”

Outside the room, the woman in red—Margaret—paced like a caged predator. Her control was slipping, and she knew it.

If the child was born… everything would change.

Inside—

A final push.

A cry pierced the air.

And just like that—

A new life entered the world.
