Chapter 1: The Price of Silence

“I shouldn’t have—”
“You shouldn’t have left,” Patricia cut in, her voice steady but sharp. “You shouldn’t have erased me like I never mattered.”
Michael flinched. For a man who had faced ruthless competitors and billion-dollar losses, nothing had ever felt as brutal as her quiet anger.
“I thought I was protecting the company,” he said weakly. “There were pressures… investors… expectations—”
“And I wasn’t part of that?” she asked. “I stood beside you when there was no company. When we barely had enough to pay rent. I was there before the suits, before the headlines.”
Michael’s throat tightened. He remembered those days—small apartment, late nights, Patricia balancing accounts while he chased impossible dreams. She had believed in him when no one else did.
“I made a mistake,” he admitted. “The biggest one of my life.”
Patricia crossed her arms, studying him carefully. “So why now?”
Michael hesitated, then handed her the wrinkled letter. “Because I’m about to lose everything. And… because I finally realized that everything meant nothing without you.”
She didn’t take the letter right away.
Instead, she asked quietly, “Do you even know what I’ve been through these nine years?”
Michael shook his head.
“That’s the problem,” she said. Then she took the letter.
As she read, the silence between them stretched—heavy, fragile, and full of everything they had never said.
When she finished, she folded the paper neatly.
“I can help you,” she said at last.
Michael’s eyes lit with hope.
“But not for the company,” she added.
His hope faltered.
“For you,” she continued. “If you’re willing to face the truth.”
Michael nodded slowly, though he wasn’t sure what truth she meant.
He had come asking for salvation.

But he was beginning to realize this wasn’t about saving his empire.
It was about saving what was left of his soul.
