Chapter 1: The Price of Silence

The echo of her fatherâs words lingered in the grand hall long after he finished speaking.
âYou will pay for this stupid act.â
No one moved.
The husbandâs confidenceâso loud just moments agoâfractured under the weight of that gaze. His hand, the same hand that had struck his pregnant wife, now trembled ever so slightly at his side.
âDadâŠâ the woman whispered, her voice fragile but breaking through the suffocating tension.
Her father turned instantly, his expression softening the moment he looked at her. âYouâre coming home,â he said, not as a suggestion, but as a promise.
The husband stepped forward, panic creeping into his voice. âThis is a misunderstanding. Sheâshe provoked my motherââ
âEnough.â
The single word cut sharper than any blade.
Two bodyguards stepped forward, blocking his path. For the first time, he realized this wasnât a family argument he could dominate. This was powerâreal powerâclosing in.
From the staircase, the mother-in-law finally moved. Her smirk had vanished, replaced by calculation.
âSir,â she called down smoothly, masking her unease, âyoung couples argue. Surely this doesnât require such dramatics.â
The father slowly turned his head toward her. âYou encouraged this.â
It wasnât a question.
Silence answered him.
He nodded once. âThen youâll share the consequences.â
The woman clutched her fatherâs arm as she was gently guided toward the door. Her legs felt weak, but each step away from that house felt like reclaiming a piece of herself.

Behind her, the life she once believed in was collapsing.
And this time⊠she didnât look back.
