CHAPTER TWO: THE SECRET THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Another folder slid across the table.

Mauricio frowned.

“What now?”

Salinas spoke carefully.

“The voting share granted to Miss Ortiz… is not symbolic.”

Valeria looked confused.

“It carries majority control,” he continued.

The words hit like a bomb.

Mauricio’s face drained of color.

“That’s impossible,” he whispered.

“It means,” the director said slowly, “she has final decision authority over the board.”

Valeria shook her head.

“I don’t understand any of this…”

“You don’t need to,” Salinas said gently. “You just need to decide what kind of leader you want to be.”

Mauricio slammed his hands on the table again.

“This is a setup! She doesn’t even belong here!”

Valeria stood up.

Her voice was still soft—

But now it carried something new.

Strength.

“Neither did he,” she said.

Everyone turned.

“When he walked into the restaurant,” she continued, “you would’ve thrown him out too.”

Mauricio said nothing.

Because he knew it was true.

Valeria looked down at the documents in front of her.

Then back at the room.

“I don’t want your power,” she said honestly. “But I won’t let it destroy what he built either.”

For the first time—

Mauricio had no control.
