Chapter 1: The Silence After the Storm

The air in the ballroom turned suffocating.
No one dared to whisper now.
Clara Mason stood tall despite the shredded silk clinging to her body, her fingers brushing lightly over the torn fabric—not in shame, but in quiet calculation.
Andrew took a step back, as if the woman before him was someone he had never truly known.
“You… you own this place?” he stammered.
Clara didn’t answer him.
Instead, she turned to the venue manager. “Are all preparations complete?”
“Yes, Madam. Every detail, exactly as you requested.”
A flicker of realization crossed a few guests’ faces.
This wedding… had never been Andrew’s.
It had always been hers.
Patricia Whitlock let out a sharp laugh, though it trembled at the edges. “This is ridiculous. Even if you own the venue, it doesn’t change who you are.”
Clara finally looked at her.
Cold. Calm. Unshaken.
“You’re right,” Clara said softly. “It doesn’t change who I am.”

She paused.
“But it does change what happens next.”
