CHAPTER 3: A Second Chance

A week later, sunlight filled the hospital room.

David sat up in bed, his leg now safely wrapped in a new, properly fitted brace. He looked like a different child—still recovering, but smiling again.

A nurse entered with a small box.

“Someone special wanted you to have this,” she said.

Inside was a toy stethoscope and a handwritten note:

"To the bravest patient I’ve met. You reminded us all to listen—especially when it matters most. – Dr. Harris"

David grinned.

“I think I wanna be a doctor,” he said.

His parents exchanged a look—relief, pride, and overwhelming love all at once.

“I think you’d be a great one,” his mother said.

His father chuckled. “Yeah… just maybe one who listens to his patients.”

David laughed softly.

Outside, the world moved on as usual—but inside that room, everything had changed.

A mistake had nearly cost him everything.

But courage—raw, desperate, undeniable courage—had saved his life.

And in the end, it wasn’t the doctors, or the machines, or the medicine that made the difference first—
