“I was wondering when you’d get curious,” he said calmly.
Elena’s heart pounded. “Your mother is alive.”
His smile didn’t fade.
“She was supposed to be… forgotten.”
He stepped closer. “You shouldn’t have opened that door.”
Elena backed away. “You’re keeping her prisoner. That’s illegal—”
“No,” he interrupted. “That’s necessary.”
His eyes darkened.
“She knows things that could destroy everything I’ve built.”
Silence stretched between them.
Then, unexpectedly, he sighed.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Elena,” he said softly. “But I will, if I have to.”
