Chapter 2 - The Cavalry Arrives

Before the echo of Ethan's words could fade from the room, the heavy front door exploded inward with a deafening crack. Wood splintered and flew across the entryway rug.
Ethan spun around, his aggressive stance faltering for a split second.

Framed in the doorway stood Admiral Arthur Hayes. He was in his full, immaculate white US Navy officer uniform, the medals on his chest catching the dim light of the living room. His posture was a monument of absolute authority. In his right hand, he gripped a solid black walking cane. Beside him stood a grim-faced man in a dark coat, stepping into the house with practiced precision.
Arthurâs eyes swept the room, taking in the shattered glass, Rachelâs torn dress, and the terrified face of his granddaughter. His gaze finally locked onto Ethan. The air in the room seemed to drop ten degrees.
"Release my daughter," Arthur commanded. His voice wasn't a yell; it was a low, seismic rumble that demanded instant obedience.
Ethanâs shock morphed into rabid defiance. "Get out of my house!" he spat, lunging forward to close the distance, his fists clenched to strike the older man.
He severely underestimated the Admiral.
With lightning speed, Arthur sidestepped Ethanâs wild swing. He brought the heavy black cane up in a swift, brutal arc, parrying the attack and striking Ethan off balance. Before the younger man could recover, Arthur grabbed the collar of Ethan's suit, spun him around, and slammed him face-down onto the heavy wooden dining table.
Ethan gasped as the wind was knocked out of him, his cheek pressed hard against the polished wood. Arthur leaned his weight into the cane, pinning the struggling man effortlessly.
"Who are you?!" Ethan wheezed, thrashing against the unyielding grip.
Arthur didn't even look at him. He kept his eyes locked on the front door and gave a single, sharp command: "Now."
A heavily armed SWAT team materialized from the shadows of the porch, pouring into the house like a tidal wave of black tactical gear. Rifles were raised, scanning the perimeter, before two officers immediately swarmed the table, pulling Ethanâs arms behind his back and snapping cold steel handcuffs onto his wrists.
Arthur stepped back, letting the officers secure the threat. He walked slowly toward Rachel and Lily, the stern, terrifying mask of the Navy commander softening into the deeply relieved face of a father.

He opened his hand. Resting in his palm was the small black SOS device, the red tab completely removed. He looked back at Ethan, who was now being dragged to his feet by the tactical officers.
"Rachel sent the code before you even touched her," Arthur said, his voice cold and final. "Take him out."
