CHAPTER 2: THE RECORDING

The next day, Mariana began to fight back—but quietly.

Carefully.

She knew one mistake could cost her everything.

So she watched.

And she recorded.

Using her old phone, she started capturing moments—Camila’s cold instructions, the locked doors, the untouched food trays returned to the kitchen.

But what she needed… was proof no one could deny.

She got it two nights later.

Camila didn’t know Mariana was in the pantry.

Didn’t know the door was slightly open.

Didn’t know the phone was recording.

“If that old woman doesn’t eat, even better,” Camila said, her voice calm, almost amused. “She’ll stop being a burden sooner.”

Mariana’s breath caught.

“And Santiago?” another voice asked—one of Camila’s friends.

“He sees what I want him to see,” Camila replied. “Men like him are too busy to notice the truth.”

Mariana felt something inside her snap.

This wasn’t neglect.

This was deliberate.

Cruel.

Calculated.

And now—

She had it on record.
