Chapter 2: The Smile That Broke

Ten minutes later, we were in the hotel’s security room.

The ballroom’s elegance was gone.

No chandeliers.

No music.

Just screens.

Truth doesn’t need decoration.

The footage rewound.

Paused.

Zoomed.

And then…

Played.

There I was—seated beside Sophie.

Laughing softly.

Completely unaware.

Then Preston entered the frame.

Alone.

His expression calm.

Calculated.

He walked directly to our table.

Looked around.

No one watching.

Except the camera.

His hand moved.

Quick.

Precise.

He slipped something into Sophie’s jacket pocket.

Then stepped back.

Adjusted his cuffs.

And smiled.

The same smile I had seen earlier.

Only now…

Everyone saw it.

The room went silent.

Not shocked.

Hollow.

Like something sacred had just shattered.

“No…” my father whispered.

But it wasn’t denial.

It was recognition.

Preston staggered back.

“It’s edited,” he snapped. “This is fake—”

“Stop.”

It wasn’t me.

It was his wife.

She stood at the doorway.

Still in her wedding dress.

But the illusion was gone.

“You planted it.”

Her voice trembled—but didn’t break.

“You framed a child… on our wedding day.”

Preston reached for her.

She stepped back.

May you like

And in that single movement…

He lost everything.
