Chapter 2: The Perfect Victim

At 2:17 a.m., the warehouse alarm triggered.
Not loud. Not obvious.
Just enough.
Paige took the bait immediately.
Her heels echoed across the loading dock as she rushed toward Unit Seven. I watched through the narrow gap in the panel.
She fumbled with her phone.
“Nathan?” she whispered. “Something’s wrong. The system—”
That’s when the door locked behind her.
A sharp metallic snap.
Her breath hitched.
“What—what is this?”
Silence answered her.
Then my voice.
Calm. Controlled.
“Cold in here, isn’t it?”
She spun around, eyes wide, panic blooming instantly.
“Evelyn?!”
I stepped forward, just enough for her to see me through the dim emergency light.
“You were supposed to watch the door,” I said quietly. “Not step inside.”
Her composure shattered.
“You don’t understand—it wasn’t my idea—”
“No,” I cut in. “You just helped.”
The temperature dropped further.
Her voice trembled.
“Please… I’ll tell you everything…”
I tilted my head.
“You already have.”
May you like
Hidden microphones captured every word.
Just like Donovan promised.
